Ehab Sadeek, Muslim Bagel Shop Owner, Donates Profits Until Last Boston Bombing Victim Left Hospital

A Muslim bagel shop owner donated all of his profits from the day of the Boston bombings until the very last victim was released from the hospital Monday.

Ehab Sadeek, owner of Bagel Land in Winchester, Mass., was distraught after learning that members of his religion had carried out the April 15 attacks, which claimed three lives and injured at least 264 people, according to CBS Boston. Sadeek then vowed to donate all of the money he made from his store until the last victim went home, which finally happened on Monday.

“If I stay quiet about it then I am giving these terrorists a chance to hijack my religion,” Sadeek told CBS Boston after the bombings. “I know what I stand for.”

Sadeek wrote out a check to the One Fund for $5,000 on Monday after Erika Brannock, a 29-year-old teacher who lost most of her left leg in the attacks, left Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

“Today is 50 days and I think it just shows that it was a really long road, for not just me, for a lot of other people,” Brannock told the Associated Press.

The generous storeowner is one of a number of Muslim community members who has condemned the attacks and called on Muslims to get involved in helping victims.

On the day of the bombings, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) — the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization –- criticized the attacks and encouraged Muslims to pray and donate blood to the American Red Cross.

“American Muslims, like Americans of all backgrounds, condemn in the strongest possible terms today’s cowardly bomb attack on participants and spectators of the Boston Marathon,” CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said in a statement on April 15. “We urge people of all faiths to pray for the victims and their loved ones and for the speedy recovery of those injured.

To date, the One Fund has collected nearly $40 million.

There are some people who enter your life like gems. These are the real diamonds. They have no ulterior motives, no inferiority complex, no superiority complex, no need to prove that they are better than you, or seek to have more than you. They don’t feel entitled and aren’t needy or dependent. They are not superficial or fake. They remind you of God and they understand you, when no other person does. They don’t wear a mask with you or pretend to be perfect. They are just real with you and honestly and sincerely only want good for you. You feel you can tell them anything without worrying that they will judge you or put you down for being imperfect. They know your flaws, but love you anyway. And they are loyal. You know they’ll be there for you. They’ll always have your back. And best of all, time and distance doesn’t change this. If you’ve met even one person in your entire life like this, you’re blessed.
